Day #231 - It's the Eve of a New Beginning


It's gonna be another new year; a new start.
It seems that people tend to use events as a sign to say, "Let's start something".
It could be done any day, but because events happen, and it prompts them to do it than any other day.
Same goes for me.

Starting from next year, at the end of 2020, I hope I can say that I have achieved 'something'.

Goals of the Day:

It was an unexpected long day at the new house, discovering that the cement screed was done wrongly and we have to get it rectified quickly, and spending over 1 hour discussing with Dearest on the various electrical points and lightings plan.

  • Reviewed wedding car choices and contacted one shortlisted
  • Bought and made preparations for the picnic tomorrow
  • Rest early for tomorrow's sunrise with Dearest
  • Had a fruitful and patient discussion with Dearest on the electrical works for our new house

Day #229 - My Work Ethics



Felt slightly down that I could foresee myself unable to complete the work tasks before next Wed meeting.
But I perked myself up today by sharing my feelings and thoughts with Dearest, and conveying the progress update with my project lead and teammate.
And I ate MacDonald breakfast - always something to feel happy about.

Goals of the Day:

  • Reach home by 8pm to rest (so I have energy to pick mum up at the airport)

Got caught up with work till near 8pm.
Felt the need to unwind after a few nights of OT, so decided to join my guys for darts.
Picking mum up from the airport would be quite late, so I decided not to go to rest at home.

Day #228 - Re-Evaluation of Priorities

A timely reminder of re-evaluation of my priorities from the current book that I'm reading.

  • Prioritize on which work tasks come first

Spent near to 2 hours settling the UOB account and credit card over lunch.
But I finally did it!
Stayed back at work till 10+pm to trying to sort out my current work.
Gotta work harder at having more clarity in my thoughts so that I can translate that into actions.

  • Successfully set up UOB one account and applied for 2 UOB credit cards in preparation for large expenses and common financial account between me and Dearest

Day # 218 - The Beginning of a Packed Week


I could foresee a packed week ahead; both in terms of office work, renovation and wedding.
And I will overcome these tasks.

Went down to BTO, with Dearest joining later, to liaise with the electricians whom we arranged last minute, to settle the electrical points before the cement screeding in the living room.
Wasn't easy talking for 2.5hours with my throat hurting.
Was hungry, but luckily Dearest bought bread and water =)

  • Settled renovation stuff (stopping the cement screeding for the living room and quickly arranging for the electrical works)

Day #197 - Being Prepared


A reminder to be prepared for life.
Be it financially, mentally, or physically.
At least this morning we didnt have to worry about the cost of possibility being admitted into the hospital.

As much as it's not ideal for me to continue on working in the current state, I recognize it's my responsibility, and my attitude towards my work, and makes me want to make certain things happen.

We got our keys to our house today!
Although it was a big rush in the morning due to the stupid train delays, but overall, it was a nice day of doing rituals to bless the house, a cross-family lunch, and sitting on the dusty concrete discussing renovation works =p

Managed to get a Silver for my IPPT!
Although I would have a shot at Gold if my running wasn't so bad (13:08min).
But full scores for push-ups, and nearly-full scores for sit-ups.
An achievement that I could contend with for now.
I shall aim for Gold before the year ends!

Day #166 - A Continuous Grind


I recalled my days of MMORPG gaming, where everyday, if possible, I will be grinding away, working hard at my quests, and killing mobs after mobs. All these for that illusive sense of pride in getting to higher levels and cooler weapons or skills.

Day #165 - A Better Person


And that is what I will be today; a better person than I was yesterday.

  • Attend Data Science course after work (it's free!)
    • Achieved
  • NZ trip planning - to decide on the Ice Glacier tours
    • Achieved, will just go for the full day hike!
The course didn't really teach any technical skills, but introduce me to some of the terms used in machine learning. Helps me understand a bit better for my work. 
The environment at Spacemob, the venue of the course, was also quite vibrant.
My working history are all quite conventional; govt or govt-related.
So seeing the start-up scene is quite novel, and refreshing =)
Would I be like that in future? or Could I be like that in future? 
I wonder.

  • Full trip itinerary for NZ out!
    • But probably want to tweak it further to allow more buffer in case the glacier tour get cancelled due to bad weather
